Elroy John

Managing Attorney

Elroy took a non-traditional path to becoming a lawyer.  He joined the Army shortly after graduating high school and served for seven years.  When his tour ended, he completed his undergraduate studies at Florida Atlantic University and became an advocate for children and families at a foster care and adoption agency.  Later, he was recruited to manage a $1 million-dollar grant program from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, which helped to house homeless veterans.  It was through those experiences that he first worked with lawyers and was able to observe how they shape outcomes and impact lives.

Elroy went on to earn a law degree from the Florida International University College of Law (FIU).  While in law school, Elroy developed an optical illness which ultimately degraded his overall sight. He is now classified as “low vision,” a type of visual impairment that cannot be corrected with lenses or surgery. Unwilling to surrender to adversity, Elroy has adapted his practice, and his life, incorporating modern technologies and services which aid in delivering top-quality representation to his clients.

Since becoming an attorney, Elroy has tried cases before juries in both state and federal courts. His adversaries in the courtroom have included large insurance companies, local prosecutors’ offices, and even the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Elroy focuses his practice in the areas of personal injury, criminal defense, and business litigation. He has argued numerous criminal and civil motions, taken and defended countless depositions, and even handled several appellate and post-conviction actions.  Elroy also stays connected to his alma mater, serving as a coach for the FIU mock trial competition team.

Elroy participates in several legal organizations including the Broward County Bar Association, the Broward County Trial Lawyers Association, the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (Miami-Dade County chapter), the TJ Reddick Bar Association, and the Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. bar association. He is currently admitted to practice law in the State of Florida and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
